Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Care
A cancer diagnosis during the AYA years is highly challenging. AYAs experience and respond to cancer in ways that differ from other population groups. Healthcare professionals need AYA-specific knowledge and skills in order to maximise outcomes for this population. It is important to understand the context and developmental needs of AYA patients so as to support and imporve their experience of cancer diagnosis, treatment, side effects, long term effects and end-of-life care.
As such, WCMICS funded an ONTrac at Peter Mac project to develop an online AYA nursing education program to build knowledge and skill sets that support the delivery of youth-foucused and family-centred cancer care.
This suite of eLearning modules is now available and can be accessed by nurses via the eviQ website.
Victorian Chemotherapy Services Redesign Project
The original project
"Following a successful project conducted at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in 2011/12, where multi-disciplinary staff collaborated to improve the efficiency of their CDU by developing a suite of performance measures to inform targeted interventions, the Department of Health called for ‘Expressions of Interest’ for up to 8 health services to collaborate in a Victorian Chemotherapy Services Redesign Project (VCSRP). A key driver for the establishment of this project was to test the broader application of the measures in a diverse range of CDUs to see if others could replicate the measures, gain insights into local systems constraints and then apply the leanings to achieve similar efficiencies."
